My Approach
Whether you’re working on undergraduate admissions essays, applying to graduate school, or struggling through dissertation edits, writing is hard. And in a world of AI, it’s tempting to take shortcuts on our writing process, from brainstorming to editing. But I believe these shortcuts do us a disservice, both as thinkers and as people.
My individualized approach to teaching writing emphasizes how every step of the process can be used to refine ideas, strengthen communication skills, and nurture your unique and personal voice. I work to help you not only complete your current writing project, but also understand the writing process as a tool that you can employ in a variety of future contexts.
I offer one-on-one coaching services customized to meet your writing needs. I work with students on undergraduate admissions essays; college-level writing and study skills; graduate and medical school application essays; and a variety of graduate-level academic writing projects, including fellowship applications and dissertations.
About Me: Eliza Feero
I have over a decade of experience tutoring, coaching, and teaching writing and reading skills. I have worked with students on undergraduate, PhD, and medical school essays, and coached graduate students on dissertation writing, fellowship applications, and publication editing. I earned my B.A. in Comparative Literature from Brown University, and my M.A. in English from Northwestern University. I am currently in the last quarter of my Ph.D. in English at Northwestern, where I specialize in medieval and early modern English literature.
At Northwestern, I have taught Expository Writing to undergraduates, focusing on the expectations and structures of academic writing; the development of a personal and scholarly voice; and the reading and writing skills necessary to college success. I have also worked at the Graduate Writing Place, where I assisted graduate students with PhD applications, dissertation edits, job materials, and numerous other writing challenges. I am a fully trained Fellowships Advisor through Northwestern’s Office of Fellowships, where I have helped students, including multiple Fulbright winners and a Truman finalist, with personal essays, research proposals, and interview preparation.
Based in Buffalo, NY, I live with my wife and our two black cats, Alanna and Buffy.
