From brainstorming to character counts, college admissions essays are difficult. But they are also opportunities to reflect on who you are at this pivotal moment in your life, and on what you’re looking for in your personal and educational community. Together, we’ll work through all the steps of putting together compelling and unique admissions essays, along with supplemental written materials. At the same time, you will develop communication and editing skills that will serve you in college and beyond.
College-Level Writing Intensive
Pre- or during-college writing coaching. Prepare to meet the expectations of college writing, from developing an argument to formatting references. I draw on my experience teaching Expository Writing to undergraduates at Northwestern University to help prepare you for college writing success.
College-Level Reading and Study Skills
Pre- or during-college reading and study skills coaching. Worried about the college reading load? Are you a slow reader, or do you struggle with more dense reading materials? Struggling to organize your time and decide which work to prioritize? Let’s work through strategies for managing your reading load, note-taking, and study schedule in college.

Graduate Admissions Consulting
Applying to Master’s or PhD programs? I will work with you to develop and revise application essays, helping you to clearly communicate your research interests while highlighting your unique voice. Together, we’ll develop a throughline for your application that demonstrates your intellectual development as you’ve moved between schools, fields of study, or labs. I also provide consultations on choosing programs; navigating department websites; understanding funding packages and program requirements; and preparing for admissions interviews.
Conferences 101
Getting ready for your first conference? Now’s the time to ask all those conference etiquette questions you’ve never had the chance to ask! We can also dedicate time to developing your abstract, or preparing your presentation, from editing down material into a conference-length paper to preparing slides that will be helpful but not overwhelming.
Academic Writing Coaching
Struggling to make progress on dissertation writing? Baffled by conflicting feedback from your committee? Combating writer’s block or writing anxiety? I offer a broad range of services related to academic writing, including assistance developing a writing habit and tackling writer’s block; genre and style guidance on everything from journal articles to grant applications; and coaching on all aspects of dissertation writing, from structuring a chapter to addressing committee feedback. I also offer coaching on Master’s theses, seminar papers, and grant and fellowship applications.
Skills for Graduate School
I offer coaching for a variety of graduate school challenges, including navigating the requirements and expectations of grad school; researching and writing term papers; managing reading load; and prepping for presentations. I also help students who are getting ready to teach, applying for grants or fellowships, or editing journal articles and responding to reviewer feedback. I have also worked extensively with English Language Learners (ELL) and international students on adjusting to graduate-level writing in English.
Medical School Essay Coaching
Overwhelmed by medical school essays? Worried you’re just repeating yourself with each prompt? Unsure what readers are looking for in your answers? I will work with you to develop a throughline for your application; strategize about which essay should highlight which experience; craft compelling answers that reveal the right amount of personal detail; and revise answers to fit varied character and word counts. We will also discuss what reviewers are looking for in each answer, how to distinguish between similar questions, and how to provide new information in answer to repetitive secondary application questions.
